9. Course description:
The aim of the course is to develop the English language and study skills of students who have been identified as having a low level of English attainment, so that by the end of the course, they can progress to the University Study Skills in English 3 course and actively participate in mainstream university courses to an international standard.

Students are to successfully demonstrate the following English language and study skills:
• Understanding and answering questions
• Knowledge and use of academic and business vocabulary and rubrics
• Use of context while reading texts
• Use of inference while reading texts
• Use of context while listening to texts
• Use of inference while listening to texts
• Writing paragraphs
• Elementary paragraph writing grammar
• Writing essays
• Elementary essay writing grammar

12. Learning and teaching approaches:
Whilst lecturing is the recognised form of instruction for most disciplines, teachers are encouraged to use their imagination when deciding approaches and methods of instruction. An eclectic approach, integrating multiple methods is required to facilitate the appropriate learning environment for individual students as learning a language involves doing rather than talking about doing.
