Teachers' Organisations

There are so many organisations that cater for teachers of English, that it may seem difficult to choose which one is best for you. From personal experience, I believe that it is important to belong to an organisation based in the country where you are working as well as an organisation from your country of origin.

In my case, this would be Thailand TESOL (ThaiTESOL) and the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL) based in England.

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is a very large organisation in America, with a vast range of resources, so I decided to join them and there was always a large contingent from Japan at the Thailand conferences, so I opted to join the Japan Association for Language Teaching (JALT) to see what they were doing.

Finally, I presented a paper in the Philippines recently and found certain similarities with problems we face in Thailand and areas of concern in the Philippines, so I am in the process of joining the Philippine Association for Language Teaching (PALT).

Here are some links to help you look at what these organisations have to offer.
